Yesterday, I took the time to watch the San Francisco-Minnesota game that was played last night at the Chase Center in San Francisco. This game featured two notable prospects in San Francisco’s sophomore point forward, Mike Sharavjamts, and Minnesota’s forward Dawson Garcia, a stretch big that used to play at North Carolina and can score the basketball. It was a close game for awhile, but San Francisco was able to pull away to get the win, and they received strong performances from quite a few players in the process. Here are my thoughts on how they and other various prospects fared in this game.

San Francisco’s 6-8 swingman, Mike Sharavjamts had a solid showing in his team’s double-digit win over Minnesota. He showed off versatile scoring skills, as he primarily excelled at scoring on aggressive drives to the hoop, but he also showed an improved outside shot, and also ran in to score on a tip-in due to possessing solid motor.
He also passed and handled the ball well, and he is an unselfish player that could make an assortment of passes due to possessing good court vision. Sharavjamts also was active on the glass and defensively, and he would get his hands on balls to help his team get rebounds and steals.
Overall, Mike Sharavjamts quietly played very well, as he excelled at making plays on both ends of the floor to help his team get the win. He is a high IQ basketball player that seems to have taken an extra leap to elevate his game, and he could end up being a solid find for an NBA team in the 2024 draft.

Dawson Garcia also had a solid showing in his team’s loss to San Francisco. He showed off a variety of skills, and he is a three-level scorer that has shown that he can effectively put the ball in the hoop. He did a good job of scoring on strong drives to the hoop, and he also would score on hustle plays. He showed the ability to knock down spot-up threes to show his shooting prowess. On the downside, he did miss on some tough, contested shots out of the post, but for the most part, Garcia excelled as a scorer in this game.
He also showcased adequate playmaking skills, and he is an unselfish player that can handle the basketball, especially for a player his size. On the downside, he didn’t grab enough rebounds and struggled to defend in the post, and he would sometimes allow scores to opponents that shouldn’t have scored on him.
Overall, Dawson Garcia did a good job of shooting and scoring the basketball, but he will need to improve his rebounding and defense in the meantime. Still, he is a skilled big man and he is a second round prospect that could project to be an effective rotation player in the NBA.
San Francisco’s 6-8 junior forward, Jonathan Mogbo put forth a terrific performance to lead his team to a win over Minnesota. He is a strong, athletic forward that primarily excelled as a finisher and at scoring on strong moves out of the post. He also passed and rebounded the ball well, and he is an active defender that would make plays on the ball to get stops for his team. Overall, Mogbo played very well to help his team get the win. On one hand, he is a very good player for the collegiate level, but on the other, he is an undersized power forward that will need to improve his outside shot and perimeter skills for the next level. Still, if he can, he could end up being an effective role player in the NBA someday.
Minnesota’s 6-9 sophomore big man, Pharrel Payne is an athletic big man that excelled as a finisher around the basket, and he also showed that he can ably score on one-on-one plays. He has a good motor, and he would score on hustle plays. He also was able to throw down a thunderous tip slam while getting an extra free throw. He showed that he could develop into a go-to scorer at the collegiate level in the future, and he is a skilled big man that could end up being an effective role player at the NBA level.
San Francisco’s 5-11 freshman point guard, Ryan Beasley excelled as a sharpshooter on offense, and he also passed and defended well. He did a good job of throwing interior passes to find his teammates on the move. He also would get his hands on passes to get steals and also was able to successfully draw a charge to get a stop for his team. While he is undersized for his position, he is a skilled playmaker that made solid plays on both ends of the floor, and he could project into a backup point guard role at the NBA level.
San Francisco’s 6-2 junior guard, Marcus Williams played well, and he excelled as a scorer in this game. On a side note, there have been multiple Marcus Williams’ to have played in the NBA, and based on the way he played in this game, he could perhaps be next in line to also end up playing in the asssociation.
Williams did a very good job of driving to the hoop to do so, and he also was able to score on sharp backdoor cuts, and he even scored over a bigger player out of the post. He’ll still need to show that he can effectively run the point at higher levels and lacks elite athletic gifts, but his toughness, scoring skills, and ability to make plays on both ends of the floor could enable him to compete for a roster spot in the NBA.
Minnesota’s 6-2 junior point guard, Mike Mitchell Jr. showed off versatile scoring skills, and he did a good job of passing and rebounding the basketball. He didn’t stand out athletically and didn’t seem to make any eye-popping plays, but he subtly played well, and he could end up competing for a roster spot in the NBA in the future.
Other Notes:
I also watched this game to see how Minnesota’s forward, Isaiah Ihnen would fare, as he’s shown glimpses of his shooting skills in the past, and his size, athleticism, shooting ability could make him an intriguing long-term prospect. However, he did not play much or well in this game, as he was entirely too passive, and he was held scoreless on offense. So, that was a real bummer.
All in all, those are my thoughts on how Sharavjamts, Dawson Garcia, and others fared in this game. Thanks for reading.
